18 years old Liisa Kaihua was seriously injured in the floorball F-league match O2 Jyväskylä–Classic.

Kaihua, representing Classic, flew headfirst into the wall when he deflected the ball with an opposing player. In the hall in Jyväskylä, the walls are very close to the edge of the rink.

You can watch a video of the situation from this link.

The match was played on Saturday. Classic announced the same evening on Instagram that Kaihua had been taken to Jyväskylä Central Hospital for treatment.

In further examinations, Kaihua was diagnosed with a concussion. Classic reported that the player’s condition was stable, and that he was able to go back to Tampere.

The safety of Finnish floorball halls has been talked about before. In 2021, national team player Krister Savonen’s career ended when he hit his head and suffered a concussion at the Tapiola sports hall in Espoo.

Since then, the brain injury has also caused difficulties in Savonen’s personal life.

After Kaihua got injured, Ruutu’s floor bandy specialist Toni Lötjönen brought the security issue back to the table in X.

– The F-League’s situation issue comes to the surface again through the worst, i.e. a serious injury. The walls don’t move and new halls come too slowly. We are forced to consider a small variation in the size of the rink and/or force the walls near the rink to be padded, Lötjönen wrote.
