Liigatähti’s comment about Cooper’s test raised a debate – Teemu Selänne responded to the target result: “It’s going backwards”

How much should a professional hockey player run in Cooper’s test? An argument started on this topic when the KalPa captain gave Savon Sanom a comment about his team’s goals.

Savon Sanomat recently published an interview about KalPa’s captain Jaakko from Rissase. Konkari player gave comments about his team’s preparation for next season and talked about strengthening the basic condition, among other things.

Rissanen claims that with a little preparation, every KalPa player could reach at least 3,000 meters in the legendary Cooper’s test.

– It probably depends on when we go running. If we went straight from here, few would reach it. But if for a month the cycling training was changed to running, I believe that everyone would be able to make it, says Rissanen in Savon Sanom.

Rissanen’s reference that a major league level hockey player would not be able to easily cover three kilometers in 12 minutes caused a discussion on Twitter. Coach champion and sports influencer asked Lampinen shared the news on social media and commented that a hockey player should clear the three-ton limit without much preparation.

– This story is relatively funny and tells how the wrong perception can perhaps be about adequate basic endurance fitness. Every professional hockey player should at any time, after a small warm-up, lightly run more than 3000 meters. If this is not the case, then the “foundations” are not at a sufficient level, Lampinen says on Twitter.

Would go backwards

Teemu Selänne does not think that the result of 3,000 meters is demanding for a hockey player. Antti Nikkanen

Finnish ice hockey legend Teemu Selänne was one of those who responded to Lampinen.

– 3,000 now goes backwards from the bat player, Selänne commented.

Rissanen’s interview also raised the question of whether Cooper’s test is a suitable measure for a hockey player whose sport requires quick, explosive changes of direction and several small breaks on the bench.

Former Prime Minister of Finland Alexander Stubb believes that the bike test would be the most suitable fitness test for ice hockey players.

– Cooper’s test is a good measure in itself. However, I would think that the most natural maximum test for lacrosse players is done on a bike. Buttock and thigh twist of the same class that Vo2max gets the glory. You change on the ice for 30-60 seconds. Then the flute. Fewer play more than 20 minutes per match, Stubb, known as a fitness athlete wrote.

Stubb’s back stroked and reminded him of the benefits of versatile training.

– Versatility. Running, ball games, bike the most used exercise. The problem is that you are squatting all the time and it also puts a strain on the hips or buttocks. Their mobility is very important in skating, where a wide kick is important. When they stiffen, either the groin, lower back, or lower abdomen break down, the hockey player tweeted.

Cooper’s test was a topic of conversation recently when he started his military service Lauri Markkanen ran into one in Santahamina, Helsinki. The NBA superstar crossed the three-kilometer mark easily, but there was no real fitness test result, as the Finn limped at the end.

– I ran 3,330 meters. It cannot now be compared to Lauri’s result, when the boy took a walk at 3,000 meters. That was enough for a fitness vacation, Dad Pekka Markkanen told Iltalehte.

Formula star Valtteri Bottas made 2008-2009 better.

– 3,550 meters was the result. In the beginning, it was supposed to take 3,250 meters, but later that, Bottas stated in the interview.
