Paris Saint-Germain is scheduled to start training on July 10. Now the coaching question has been clarified: the Spaniard Luis Enrique will be the new coach.
Luis Enrique becomes new coach at Paris Saint Germain. The capital club presented the Spaniard as the successor to coach Christophe Galtier.
“Luis Enrique is one of the best coaches in the world. It’s great that he’s joining us”, said PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi. The former Spain national football coach was confident about his new role. “I have no doubt that we will have a great team.” And the 53-year-old added: “We have to win titles. Have a common goal.” Enrique has been without a job since the Spaniards split after the World Cup round of 16 against Morocco in Qatar.
Separation from Galtier only sealed in the morning
It wasn’t until the morning shortly before Enrique’s performance PSG officially sealed the separation from his previous coach Galtier. Exactly one year to the day after the Frenchman’s arrival, the club announced the 56-year-old’s departure. The club thanked Galtier for his commitment during the past season, which did not go as hoped with the knockout round in the Champions League against FC Bayern Munich.
Investigations against Galtier for bullying and discrimination, an alleged incident that took place during his time as OGC Nice coach, also made headlines. In a statement released by Galtier’s lawyer, the coach said that he was “stunned by the insulting and defamatory” report when the preliminary investigation became known. According to his own statements, he himself had filed a complaint.
