The fifth edition of the Light Route started in Den Helder last night. For the next three weeks, radiant works of art can be admired every evening across the city. The event was actually supposed to take place in December, but then the corona rules were still in the way.
“I am very happy that we now have a beautiful light route in the city every evening from 7 p.m. for three weeks,” says Anke de Vries of City Marketing Den Helder. “We want to encourage the residents and show everyone that we have a vibrant city. I am very proud”
The event could not take place in December 2020, nor last December, but then the corona rules were suddenly relaxed. “We thought then we would move it and this is the last period that it is still possible, it is now dark long enough in the evening. Some artists had already prepared something, others had not. It was quite exciting to finish everything on time. have,” says De Vries.

The light route was opened by alderman Heleen Keur. With the push of a button, she started a light animation on the water tower in the city center. The flag of Ukraine flies on top of the tower. “I cannot ignore the fact that in this dark time as Den Helder we will hopefully shine a little light into the world. And I hope that we can also face the future in peace and security.”
There are a total of nine locations where a light artwork can be admired. From the water tower in the city center, in the direction of the School 7 library, the tour goes to the old Rijkswerf Willemsoord. “I think if you walk the route and let the light amaze you that you really become happy. I hope that we will see a lot of people with a smile on their faces, despite all the misery that is further down the world says DeVries.
