Two people died at Niedergörsdorf airfield (Teltow-Fläming district) when a motorized light kite crashed.

“The kite fell on a field around 3 p.m. for unknown reasons,” said a spokesman for the police situation service on Saturday. It was an aircraft with an auxiliary engine on which individual people can fly.

According to the information, both victims had flown with the light kite. The fire brigade and police were alerted. The exact course of events and the identity of the dead were still unclear.

At the Altes Lager airfield near Niedergörsdorf there was a Germany-wide competition for hang gliders until Friday, and a competition for paraglider pilots should start there on Monday, as a spokesman for the Hang Glider Club Berlin eV told the dpa.

The spokesman for the situation service was initially unable to say whether the crash was related to the competition.
