Light evening in Dwingeloo and Diever: ‘A moment of reflection, memory and connection’

A new edition of the ‘Lichtjesavond’ will be held in Diever and Dwingeloo on November 24. This event provides a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together, remember and find comfort in the soft glow of countless tea lights. Last year, an Evening of Lights took place in Diever for the first time.

The churches in both places serve as the starting point, where visitors receive a glass jar with a tea light. Together, in an atmosphere of reflection and solidarity, visitors then walk in silence to the cemetery. The cemetery provides a moving stage for placing lights on the graves of loved ones who have passed away.

“Here we can honor our loved ones and honor their memories. Everyone can light a light, even if your loved one is not in the cemetery in Diever or Dwingeloo,” says Isabel Pluim on behalf of the organization. “We have created a special space for them in the shape of a big heart, where you can leave your light.”

Last year the evening of lights was organized for the first time in Diever. “Everything is voluntary from the church. Given all the positive reactions from the village, this year it will be in both Diever and Dwingeloo. On the same evening. This event has no evangelical character; everyone is welcome, regardless of background or religion,” says Pluim.

Community and comfort

Evening of Lights is not only about sadness and memories, but also about community and comfort. “In the serene silence of the evening, surrounded by the soft glow of many lights, you experience a deep connection with each other. This event provides an opportunity to find support from others who have suffered a similar loss and to share in the comfort of our close-knit community. The evening serves as a moment of reflection, memory and connection.”

The organization invites everyone to participate, regardless of background or religion. It is not necessary to register for the Light Evening. The Evening of Lights takes place on Friday, November 24 and starts in both the Kruiskerk in Diever and the Nicolaaskerk in Dwingeloo at 7 p.m.
