Lifelong driving ban and still drunk behind the wheel

The checks took place along the Koninklijke Baan and the Robert Vandammestraat in Koksijde. There were also mobile controls. One in ten drivers therefore blew positive. With one driver it was no less than 2.5 per mille. He was heavily intoxicated and had a lifelong driving ban. His vehicle was impounded.

Spokesperson Ine Deburchgraeve: “Alcohol is one of the biggest ‘killers’ in traffic. In Belgium, alcohol plays a role in 1 in 4 fatal accidents. Nearly 4 out of 10 drivers who were seriously injured in a road accident drove under the influence of alcohol. That is why we check this very strictly in PZ Westkust.”
