Lifeless body of 16-year-old washes up in Bredene

At the height of beach club Hippo Beach, a passerby noticed the body on Sunday morning. Thanks to a backpack, the police were able to identify him as the Brussels teenager who went missing in the sea on Saturday evening. That evening, around 8 p.m., witnesses observed cries for help in front of beach post 2 in Bredene. A German boy tried to get the teenager out of the water, but did not reach him. Immediately afterwards, the emergency services were called.

A search was immediately launched and an NH90 helicopter, lifeboats and a drone were deployed. Since it became too dark to locate the boy, the operation ended unsuccessfully after a few hours. It is not yet clear how the victim got into trouble.
