LIFE STORY. “I had a choice: become a gangster or flee my country”: Mohamed Zoubir (82), the voice of the first generation of Moroccans, passed away | Antwerp

An orphan boy who comes to Europe at the risk of his own life, starts a family in Antwerp and becomes the very first Moroccan trade union representative. It is – in a nutshell – the life of Mohamed Zoubir (82), who, since the acclaimed documentary ‘Triq Slama Mohamed’ from 2011, has become the symbol of the first generation of Moroccan guest workers. A portrait of a wise and charming Antwerp resident, who died early this week at the age of 82.
