Lieke Klaver is ‘world leading’ and grabs a World Cup ticket with a quick season opening

Lieke Klaver has had an excellent start to the indoor season. The 25-year-old athlete from Enkhuizen immediately set a lightning fast time during her first competition. In Ostrava, Klaver ran the 400 meters in 50 seconds and 54 hundredths. That is the fastest time worldwide for that distance.

Klaver won the 400 meters in Ostrava, Czech Republic. With her time she ran more than a second faster than the World Cup limit. “I still have to analyze everything, but I think this was very good,” said Klaver afterwards. She was also only two tenths above her personal record (50.34 seconds), which she ran during the National Athletics Championships in Apeldoorn last year.

Nadine Visser also played in Ostrava and had a good opening of the indoor season. The hurdler immediately qualified for the World Championships in Glasgow. The 28-year-old Hoogkarspelse ran 7.93 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles. This put her 0.09 seconds below the limit.

The National Athletics Championships will take place in Apeldoorn on February 17 and 18. The Athletics World Championships in Glasgow are from March 1 to 3.
