So far they are mainly in the inner city districts. Now Lichtenberg also has its first Parklet.

Where a car used to be parked, there are now benches and raised beds. And that instead of on Bergmannstrasse or Schönhauser Allee on Heiligenberger Strasse in Karlshorst.

The Ikarus district center initiated the new street furniture. Up to six people can now sit in one parking space. The beds will soon be planted by local residents.

“It fits like a glove with the values of our foundation,” says Stephan Jung, spokesman for the SozDia Foundation, the sponsor of the district center – for example the fair distribution of resources. What is the response from local residents? “So far there has been no headwind, we only get positive feedback.”

The new seat (costs up to 3,500 euros) is to be inaugurated on August 12, and district citizen Michael Grunst (52, left) has also announced himself.
