Lic. Maria Passucci: How to live with year-end anxiety – Brand

The end of the year is usually a time of closure. It may also be time to plan for next year. Many “balance” how they have gone through the past year, what their achievements have been and the things that are still pending. But, unfortunately, not everything is rosy. For many, approaching the end of the year, evaluating goals, having an agenda full of events to “accomplish” and celebrating the holidays can generate anxiety.

In recent years, the number of people in the world with anxiety symptoms has increased.

We know that Anxiety is excessive fear, fear or uneasiness in the face of something that is considered dangerous. Those who feel anxiety may present various symptoms that vary in severity and complexity, such as:

  • Not being able to relax, being in a state of tension or alert.
  • Having insomnia, not being able to fall asleep or having interrupted sleep.
  • Having palpitations, sweating and/or body symptoms that generally have no organic cause.
  • Having ideas and/or thoughts that you can’t stop thinking about, worrying about the future or things that you have no control over.

How to get through the end of the year without anxiety.

It is essential to be clear that there are other ways to live this moment. It is important to keep track of what your limits are, when you are feeling overwhelmed and when some situation is excessive. It is key to prevent and stop in time.

It is important to evaluate the degree of commitment to the stressful situation and assess how necessary it is to participate in it. It is key to ask yourself what are the possible ways to spend this moment, “Is it just how I think/feel or are there other ways?”

Having a Psychotherapy space is central. In general, people who feel anxious overthink things and imagine catastrophic scenarios. Talking about it helps reduce sadness, fear and worry.

Doing physical activity such as walking, yoga, meditation and body relaxation helps you feel calmer and helps reduce mental and physical tension.

And although Argentines regret it, reducing the consumption of mate and coffee usually helps a lot to reduce anxiety and have a better rest.

The invitation is to put yourself at the center of the scene and not commit to things that put mental health at risk.
