The province of Overijssel has saved the liberation festival in Zwolle with a financial contribution. The organization will receive a one-off 250,000 euros next year, so that the festival can take place again on May 5.
The Overijssel liberation festival suffered tons of losses this year, because the number of visitors was disappointing due to the bad weather, causing catering revenues to be much lower than normal.
To ensure that the upcoming edition in the Zwolle park De Wezenlanden can take place and remain freely accessible to visitors, the organization had asked for extra money.
During the discussion of the 2024 budget in the Provincial Council, the provincial factions of CDA, ChristenUnie and SP submitted an amendment in which they proposed to give the liberation festival an incidental contribution of a quarter of a million euros.
Money comes from free space of general reserves
Although the BBB, as the largest group (seventeen seats), voted against, the proposal received a narrow majority: 25-22. The 250,000 euros comes from the so-called free space of the general reserves of the province.
The liberation festival in Overijssel is part of the fourteen festivals organized in the country in collaboration with the National Committee 4 and 5 May.
