Liberation festival Assen halted due to upcoming thunderstorm, visitors abandoned site

The organization has shut down the Drenthe Liberation Festival in Assen due to an approaching thunderstorm. The access roads are closed and people are asked to leave the site.

Chairman Ger Boes announces that the festival site at the Baggelhuizerplas will be evacuated. The weather situation is too dangerous to have thousands of people on site.

“We had to decide to advise everyone to leave the field. It is expected to rain until 4 p.m. Keep an eye on the socials and RTV Drenthe. All roads are closed in the countryside, so no one will come again We’re closing everything. We can’t take the risk. And when it’s over, come back.”

According to Boes, there are now 5,000 people on the site. “It is not yet a cancellation, keep an eye on our social media. Around 3.30 pm it will rain and a thunderstorm will pass by. That is too dangerous here. We are taking it easy.”
