The Brits released the first track of their project and announced more.
After Liam Gallagher and John Squire have already spoken about a collaboration several times, they have now released the first song “Just Another Rainbow” from their new joint project. More will follow in the near future.
“One of the most uplifting tracks we’ve ever made”
In a press release, Gallagher said of the collaboration: “I think John is a top songwriter. Everyone always talks about him as a guitarist, but he’s also a top songwriter, there’s no doubt in my mind.” For him, there is “not enough of his music, be it with the Roses or with himself”. “It’s nice to see him writing songs again, and damn good ones at that. The melodies are great and the guitars deliver too,” explained Gallagher, going on to say that “even if you took all the damn guitars off and played the songs entirely on acoustic,” they would still blow you away.
Squire added of the new single: “For me, the most obvious interpretation of ‘Just Another Rainbow’ is that it’s about disappointment and feeling like you’re never going to get what you really want.” The collaborative song is “one “One of the most uplifting tracks we’ve ever made, which is strange.”
First single together
Created from three songs that the Stone Roses guitarist sent to the ex-Oasis lead singer in 2022, the recording was made in Squire’s studio in Macclesfield. Shortly thereafter, she was recorded in Los Angeles with producer and bassist Greg Kurstin and drummer Joey Waronker. Although “Just Another Rainbow” is the two Brits’ first single together, the guitarist accompanied Gallagher on stage at Knebworth Park in 2022 to record “Champagne Supernova” by Oasis.
