The award for Lewis Hamilton, who finished third in this season’s F1 series, did not leave the gala on the journey of the star driver. The uproar was sparked when the upright was found by a fan who claimed Hamilton had given it to him. Now the prize is apparently with you ignorant people.
Hamilton attended the FIA awards gala in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, over the weekend. At the end of the official part, Hamilton, who has a sour attitude towards the umbrella organization, quickly left the gala.
On Friday evening, a picture appeared on social media, in which an F1 fan completely unrelated to Hamilton or his employer Mercedes said he received the award as a gift from Hamilton.
The Mercedes team released a press release after the incident, in which it said that the fan was talking about wood and hay.
– We can confirm that Lewis Hamilton did not give the award to anyone as a gift, as the matter has been presented. Immediately after leaving the stage, Hamilton accepted the race organizers’ offer that he could leave the award in their care so they could forward it to the team, Mercedes said in a statement.
According to Talli, this is normal practice at gala events.
After Mercedes’ exit, the fan who posted a picture of the gift he “received” defended himself by saying that it was a misunderstanding.
– I want to say that I did not steal the award from Hamilton. It was a misunderstanding. He left his award on my desk and I asked if I could have it. He said yes, so I thought he gave it to me. But after seeing the press release from Mercedes, I understand that it was not a gift, but that Hamilton thought I was an employee of Fia, the user writes.
Shortly after writing his message, the user deleted his account from the X service. It is not known if the award is still in his possession. FIA has not commented on the case.
