Bayer Leverkusen remains the measure of all things in the Bundesliga. The league leaders were unimpressed by the Bayern gala and won against VfL Wolfsburg.
With an 8-1 win against Mainz 05 on Saturday, FC Bayern reduced the gap to leaders Bayer Leverkusen to seven points. But after the “Werkself”‘s performance against VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday, the points cushion for coach Xabi Alonso’s team has increased again to ten points. Leverkusen won narrowly, but deservedly, 2-0 (1-0).
Nathan Tella scored the opening goal for the home team in the first half. The Englishman scored after an outstanding assist from Alejandro Grimaldo (37th). National player Florian Wirtz put the lid on it shortly before the final whistle. Palacios put the 20-year-old in the spotlight, who hit the net with the help of the inside post (85th).
Leverkusen played it into their hands that VfL had to play outnumbered from the 28th minute onwards. Moritz Jenz was shown a yellow card early on. After a foul on Patrik Schick, the defender flew off the field.
