Ajax Women continues to keep an eye on the championship. The team from Amsterdam defeated Fortuna Sittard 2-1 by two goals from Romée Leuchter. As a result, the lead is temporarily taken over from FC Twente, which is the opponent next week.
Tiny Hoekstra only got the first big chance after half an hour. However, her bet was turned by goalkeeper Diede Lemey. Just before the break she made another save on an attempt by an Ajax player. This time defender Lisa Doorn tried to pass her, without success.

As boring as the first half was, the start of the second was so exciting. Within a minute, Jarne Teulings van Fortuna was knocked down in the box. Tessa Wullaert then took advantage of the opportunity: 1-0.
Remarkably enough, Ajax itself received a penalty three minutes later after a handball. Romée Leuchter scored the penalty: 1-1. Moments later, Leuchter gave the team from Amsterdam the lead after an assist from Hoekstra, giving Ajax a much-needed victory.
Ajax is (in any case) in first place in the women’s premier league until tomorrow. Competitor FC Twente will play against PEC Zwolle from 12.15 pm. The team from Enschede will also be the opponent in Amsterdam next Saturday. VV Alkmaar is free this week.
