Lesson for German ice hockey women

The German ice hockey women received a painful lesson at their Germany Cup premiere.

In the second tournament game, national coach Jeff MacLeod’s team lost to Olympic bronze winners Finland 1:8 (0:2, 0:4, 1:2) in Landshut. At the start there was a win over Denmark on Wednesday (1-0).

Goalkeeper Chiara Schultes (18) made her debut in the senior national team, and the teenager conceded her first goal in the middle of the first third. “We have to play with a little more self-confidence,” demanded striker Laura Kluge at MagentaSport during the break, but Finland scored three goals in the middle part of the game when they were outnumbered.

In the final third, Theresa Wagner shortened the score to 1:7 (50′) for the German team, who missed many good chances. Seconds later, the superior guests restored the old distance.

In the last game of the four-nation tournament, the selection of the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) will face the Czech Republic on Saturday (2.30 p.m./MagentaSport), which leads the table ahead of Finland (both 6 points). Germany (3) is third, Denmark (0) last.

This year, for the first time, the Women’s Germany Cup will be held parallel to the annual men’s tournament.
