Less than 1 in 10 bus stops has an associated bicycle shed

In Flanders, bicycle racks are located at an average of 14 percent of all bus shelters. The leader is Limburg, where it concerns one in five stops. Our province dangles at the back of the list, with only 9.2 percent of bicycle parking facilities. Annick Lambrecht points to Flemish minister Lydia Peeters. It urgently needs to invest more in additional bicycle parking facilities.

Flemish parliament member of Vooruit Annick Lambrecht: “When it comes to cars, everyone thinks it’s normal that they can be parked properly. When it comes to bicycles, people don’t make that click. They want traffic jams to decrease and people to use public transport. But sometimes people already have to take the bicycle to get to the bus stop. The minister says that there has never been so much money as there is now. If there is so much money, make sure there are three or four bicycle places, so that people who returning from work by bus, finding their bicycle at the stop in a dignified manner.”
