Leon Draisaitl eliminated with Edmonton Oilers – Storm in finals

Leon Draisaitl still has to wait for his first Stanley Cup success. Against Colorado Avalanche was the last stop in the NHL playoffs for the Cologne native with the Edmonton Oilers. Another German is in the final.

Ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl’s dream of winning the title has burst.

With the Edmonton Oilers, the 26-year-old from Cologne also lost the fourth duel with the favored Colorado Avalanche and thus missed entering the final series for the Stanley Cup. The 6:5 after overtime in Edmonton was the necessary fourth win for the guests from Denver in the Best of Seven series. Artturi Lehkonen scored the winner early in extra time.

Since his NHL debut in 2014, Draisaitl had only made it through the first round of the playoffs once with the Oilers. He had never come as close to the Stanley Cup as he did in the Western Conference Finals this season.

Augsburg’s Nico Sturm, on the other hand, has the chance to win the oldest trophy in North American sport as the fifth German after Uwe Krupp, Tom Kühnhackl, Dennis Seidenberg and Philipp Grubauer. In the finals, the Avalanche will face the New York Rangers or defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning. In the Eastern Conference finals, New York leads 2-1 after three games.
