Austrian fiber manufacturer Lenzing is collaborating with textile machinery supplier Karl Mayer Group to promote sustainable innovations in flat knitting and warp knitting.
The aim of the cooperation is to increase the use of non-petroleum-based materials in order to make the textile value chain more sustainable, Lenzing announced on Wednesday. Completely vegetable and biodegradable fibers and filament yarns are to be realized on knitting machines. The focus is on fossil-free materials such as lyocell fibers and filament yarns from the Lenzing brand Tencel.
“Through our partnership with the Karl Mayer Group, we want to inspire the textile value chain to proactively strive towards the implementation of their climate goals by promoting the use of plant-based and biodegradable materials, and thereby the demands of leading brands and consumers that demand environmentally conscious products,” said Florian Heubrandner, Vice President Global Textiles Business at Lenzing.
