The trend towards artificial intelligence is not going unnoticed by the PC manufacturer Lenovo. The ThinkPad developer not only wants to strengthen its position in the market with an NVIDIA cooperation, it also wants to offer its customers an entire AI ecosystem.

ChatGPT, NVIDIA & Co.: Artificial intelligence at a glance
The trend around artificial intelligence (AI) is currently noticeable almost everywhere. Not only ChatGPT, the chatbot from the AI startup OpenAI, is in the public eye, more and more companies are offering services with a focus on AI. The chip designer NIVIDA is also one of the pioneers and big beneficiaries of the AI hype in the industry and on the stock market. Not only does the company, based in Santa Clara, California, develop powerful chips that are needed to operate AI solutions, the NASDAQ company also offers its own tools. NVIDIA is increasingly relying on collaborations with other companies.
NVIDIA and Lenovo offer AI applications for businesses
And other companies also want a piece of the pie in the current environment. This also applies to the PC manufacturer Lenovo, which is best known for the ThinkPad series taken over from IBM. The Hong Kong-based company worked with NVIDIA last year to offer fast, secure and intelligent end-to-end solutions to business customers – regardless of the size of the companies they serve. “Companies of all sizes make faster, data-driven decisions with deeper insights to gain competitive advantage,” says Lenovo’s website. “Inspired by our shared vision and supported by NVIDIA, we provide our customers with scalable, secure end-to-end solutions for building or expanding AI and analytics capabilities, data centers, edge computing and remote work.”
Hybrid AI
Lenovo and NVIDIA want to provide AI capabilities wherever data is created and processed, according to the project description. Above all, they want to offer their customers individual solutions that are perfectly tailored to their requirements. This is made possible by the two companies’ hybrid approach, according to an announcement from NVIDIA. Customized AI models are generated by NVIDIA’s AI Foundations cloud service, which are then executed on Lenovo systems owned by the companies. “Together, Lenovo and NVIDIA are driving a new era of hybrid AI for enterprises by developing the next generation of technologies that enable an AI-powered future and unlock the power of their data wherever it is created,” said Lenovo’s executive vice president Kirk Skaugen announced the collaboration in October 2023. “NVIDIA and Lenovo offer a comprehensive portfolio of hybrid AI systems that companies can rely on to power generative AI from virtually anywhere,” added Bob Pette, vice president of enterprise platforms at NVIDIA.
New ThinkPad series with AI functions
But that’s not all: at the MWC technology trade fair, which took place in Barcelona in February 2024, Lenovo presented a series of new devices that are specifically designed for the use of AI services. With its latest generation of business laptops from the ThinkPad series, it aims to offer corporate customers a coherent ecosystem of AI hardware and software that is characterized by security, energy efficiency and immersion, the company said in an announcement. “The AI PC revolution is here, and Lenovo is committed to transforming its PCs and smart devices to deliver personalized AI solutions,” Lenovo said in the press release. “The new Lenovo laptops are among the first to advance this evolution. They offer users the most comprehensive personalized PC experience yet, helping to streamline workflows and increase productivity.” Lenovo’s AI functions are intended to support collaborative work, meetings, data analysis and content creation.
AI tools for Deutsche Telekom, Orange and Telefonica
In addition, Lenovo wants to launch numerous AI functions for the telecommunications industry with Edge AI. “As the telecommunications industry continues its dramatic evolution to enable the adoption of 5G and an AI-powered future, innovations in IT networks, cloud infrastructure and edge computing are critical to connecting today’s digital economy,” Lenovo wrote in a statement Announcement. “Edge computing enables companies to analyze data in real time, quickly deriving actionable insights for more efficient operations and services.” This means that industry giants such as Deutsche Telekom, Orange and Telefonica will no longer have to rely on huge data centers, but will be able to process enormous amounts of data using transformative AI applications. This could reduce the high energy costs associated with points of presence, says Lenovo.
