Two thirds are done: Lennard Kämna starts the final week of his first major tour as captain with good legs in seventh place. He has no secret podium dreams.
Lennard Kämna expects in the final week of the 106th Giro d’Italia Attacks among the top favorites. Due to the weather and a few absences from important helpers, there was hardly any movement in the overall rankings in the second week of the tour.
Kämna doesn’t want to “chase dreams”
“I understand it looked a little boring, but there will be some action”said the man from Bremen on the second rest day. “I’m expecting a tough race, lots of tough mountains. I’ll see how it goes. I’ve felt good on the longer climbs lately.”
Kämna goes into the overall seventh on Tuesday (05/23/2023) with the mountain finish on the Monte Bondone starting final stages. If Kämna keeps his place in the overall standings, he would be satisfied in the end. “For me, it’s the first Grand Tour that I ride on classification”, said the 26-year-old. He won’t start “Chasing dreams I don’t even have myself”.
3:02 minutes are missing for Kämna on the pink jersey
The first two weeks were a waiting game, physically he feels good. Too leader Bruno Amirail Kämna is currently missing 3:02 minutes. But the Frenchman is not considered to be a mountaineer and will probably lose his pink jersey on Tuesday.
As the favorite for overall victory, Kämna made the three drivers behind amirail out, the British Geraint Thomasthe Slovenians Primoz Roglic and the Portuguese Joao Almeida.
