Meribel (AP) – Despite being in the lead at half-time, Lena Dürr again just missed the second World Cup victory of her career. At the end of the alpine season, the Munich native took second place in the slalom in Meribel, France.
After the lead after the first run, the 30-year-old was 0.48 seconds behind the Slovenian Andreja Slokar. Third was Petra Vlhova from Slovakia (+0.81), who had previously won the discipline World Cup.
“Second place is a great end to my best season,” Dürr said on ZDF, “I was relatively relaxed, even in the last races. But there’s still someone there who’s faster.”
A week ago, Dürr was up front after the first round in Are, Sweden, but ultimately only finished fifth. Meribel’s second place was her best result after her only World Cup success so far in 2013 in Moscow.
