Cyclist Maximilian Schachmann remains second overall in the Tour de Suisse. The Berliner reached the finish line with the peloton on the second stage after 198 kilometers from Küsnacht to Aesch.

This puts Schachmann four seconds behind British winner Stephen Williams. The Norwegian Andreas Leknessund clinched the day’s victory single-handedly.

In the closing stages, Leknessund broke away from a breakaway group that also included Germany’s Jonasutsch for a long time. Second place in the peloton’s sprint was taken 38 seconds back by Italy’s Alberto Bettiol, who falsely celebrated the win. “My radio was off. My friends will annoy me tomorrow,” said Bettiol, who didn’t know that Leknessund had broken away.

On Tuesday, the third stage over 176.9 kilometers from Aesch to Grenchen is on the program. The Tour de Suisse ends on Sunday with the individual time trial in Vaduz.
