Dortmund’s victory against Wolfsburg also has consequences for Leipzig, Union Berlin and Freiburg. The trio have secured their European ticket. BVB and Bayern can certainly plan for the Champions League.
RB Leipzig, 1. FC Union Berlin and SC Freiburg have secured another European Cup qualification three games before the end of the season in the Bundesliga.
After Borussia Dortmund’s 6-0 (3-0) win over VfL Wolfsburg, the three clubs can no longer be pushed out of the international ranks. After the 31st matchday, third Leipzig has an eleven point lead over seventh Wolfsburg, fourth Union and fifth Freiburg, each ten points.
Bayern and Dortmund safe in the Champions League
This puts the three clubs in at least sixth place and ensures participation in the playoff round for the third-rate Conference League. In third place, RB Leipzig has a good chance of qualifying for the Champions League again. Berlin and Leipzig, who competed in the Europa League this season, can also hope for the premier class.
FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are sure to be in the Champions League. The two title contenders are nine (Bayern) and eight (Dortmund) points ahead of Union Berlin and SC Freiburg. Since the latter will meet on the coming matchday, one of the two teams can definitely no longer overtake the two top teams.
Leverkusen could be the fifth Champions League starter
Bayer Leverkusen is sixth, eight points behind the duo. The Rhinelanders can also buy a ticket for the Champions League with a Europa League triumph. Coach Xabi Alonso’s team meets AS Roma in the semi-finals. Should Leverkusen win the Europa League and not finish in the top four in the league, there will be five Bundesliga starters in the Champions League next season.
