Leipzig loses test despite Openda goal

Bundesliga club RB Leipzig lost the second pre-season test despite the first goal from record transfer Lois Openda (23).

The DFB Cup winners lost 2-1 (0-1) to Italian first division side Udinese Calcio in Lienz on Tuesday. The 23-year-old Belgian scored the equalizer for the Saxons in the 66th minute, while Berlin-born Lazar Samardzic (30th) and Vivaldo Semedo (83rd) scored for the Italians.

Leipzig coach Marco Rose relied on four newcomers to the starting lineup in Xavi Simons, Benjamin Sesko, Nicolas Seiwald and El Chadaille Bitshiabu. In the second half, alongside Openda and Liverpool loanee Fabio Carvalho, defender Josko Gvardiol, who was hotly courted by treble winners Manchester City, also played.

Leipzig had won the first test of the summer 7-0 against Oberliga side FC Grimma.
