Legia Warsaw has been fined 15,000 euros by the UEFA disciplinary committee. The Polish club is also not allowed to bring supporters to the upcoming away match against Zrinjski Mostar in the Conference League.
The club from Warsaw is punished due to the misconduct of the supporters during the match against AZ last Thursday.
Supporters then sought confrontation with the riot police before the match. A little later, Legia supporters stormed the box reserved for them, because they felt they had to wait too long before they were allowed to enter. During that outburst of violence, one riot police officer became unconscious and two were slightly injured.
UEFA reports that the penalties apply to misconduct prior to the match. The misconduct after the match are still being investigated. Two players from Legia Warsaw were also arrested during that escalation. They allegedly assaulted an AZ safety coordinator.
The outrage in Poland was enormous after the match, as evidenced by the enormous amount of hate messages that the municipality of Alkmaar and its officials received. The municipality is considering reporting because of all the messages from online ‘trolls’.
No away fans
The police reported earlier today that away fans of European football clubs are no longer welcome if they have misbehaved. The police chiefs of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, North Holland and East Brabant signed a letter in which they call on the mayors of the cities to ban all supporters of a foreign club if they have participated in fan violence.
