Supporters of Legia Warsaw stormed the entrance gate of the stadium on Thursday before the match against AZ in Alkmaar. The Mobile Unit that was on site could not stop the Polish supporters. A riot police officer became unconscious due to the violence of the supporters after being cornered.
Legia supporters also took a number of batons and pepper spray from riot police. A police spokesperson said no one has been arrested. He says he will keep his finger on the pulse about this. The officer who became unconscious was treated for his injuries, but was subsequently unable to continue working.
According to the police, it was restless at the entrance to the away section of the AZ stadium on Thursday evening. The police used tear gas to stop the supporters, but some managed to get through the entrance gate.
According to the police spokesperson, some of the fans did not have a ticket with them. They had to pick them up at the ADO stadium in The Hague as agreed. From there they would be taken by bus to the stadium in Alkmaar. But according to the spokesperson, many Polish supporters went to the AZ stadium on their own and then entered the stadium without a ticket.
The fans were not welcome in the center of Alkmaar due to the preparations for 450 years of Alkmaars Relief this weekend. It remained quiet in the city center on Thursday.
Because it became clear during the afternoon that Legia supporters were not going to adhere to the agreements and probably also had fireworks with them, the mayor designated the area around Alkmaar station and the stadium as a safety risk area. This meant that preventive searches were allowed.
