Legends of darts come to Coevorden for Andy Fordham benefit evening

They were friends for life: pub owner Albert Lubbelinkhof (54) from Coevorden and World Darts Champion Andy Fordham from England. Fordham liked to throw a dart in café De Poort, the pub of Lubbelinkhof.

‘The Viking’ died in 2021. Lubbelinkhof heard that his relatives have money problems. That is why he is holding a benefit evening with legendary former darts players.

Andy Fordham, Martin Adams, Tony O’Shea, Darryl Fitton; each and every one of them are world famous darts players. What many people don’t know is that in the early years of this century they regularly came to throw a dart at café De Poort in Coevorden.

“The manager of those guests lived in Emlichheim, just across the border,” says former pub owner Lubbelinkhof. “So one evening they came to my pub to play darts, have a drink. That’s how the friendship started.” Whenever Fordham had a tournament or demonstration in the Netherlands, he first went to Coevorden to visit his friend and to warm up in De Poort.
