Charging stations, puppet theater museums, mosque associations – the list of topics at Wednesday’s meeting was as colorful as the district.
But in the district council meeting, two left-wing politicians in particular caused a stir: parliamentary group leader Carla Aßmann and the councilor Georg Frankl demonstratively wore the cloth called keffiyeh. The debate was also about solidarity with Israel and the protection of Jewish Berliners in Neukölln.
CDU parliamentary group leader Markus Oegel outraged the BZ: “We view the wearing of Palestinian scarves with disgust. Because this is associated with a clear political statement, including about the heinous acts of Hamas.”
However, the Union decided not to convene the Council of Elders – wearing the scarves is not prohibited and there is no dress code in the district parliament.
“These people are a disgrace for Berlin’s local politics,” said Neukölln CDU deputy Christopher Förster. “I am ashamed that such people represent the Neukölln district.”
