Left block in Venray drops out | 1Limburg

The three left-wing parties SP, PvdA and GroenLinks in Venray will not be part of the new coalition.

They drop out because they are not allowed to supply an alderman together. By presenting themselves as one left bloc with four seats, they felt they could lay claim to it.

Seats
They would not qualify for it individually. The SP has two seats, PvdA and GroenLinks one each. The coalition in Venray will now be formed by Venray Lokaal, VVD, Collaboration Venray and D66. They each provide one alderman, but a fifth alderman will be added for a year.

‘No experience’
According to party chairman Harold Stevens of Venray Lokaal, the new intended aldermen have no administrative experience. “That is why we think it is important that an experienced administrator from the current council temporarily joins as fifth alderman. We will review the situation after a year,” said Stevens.

Quality
VVD party chairman Wim de Schryver also thinks it is responsible to choose this. “Venray must be of good quality to manage”, he explains. It will be announced on Friday who the incumbent alderman is who will remain on for a while. Reportedly, it concerns Jan Jenneskens (D66). The names of the new aldermen will also be released on Friday.

‘Regrettable’
Stevens calls it very unfortunate and very unfortunate that the three left-wing parties have dropped out. “We could have shown something new at a time when a lot is at stake,” said the party leader of Venray Lokaal. Party chairman Jan Hendriks of the SP describes the state of affairs as old-fashioned political tinkering. While the expressed intention was not to do that anymore and to opt for political innovation.

‘Sufficient trust’
“We were almost out of it programmatically. Since the resignation of CDA alderman Jan Loonen and the departure of the CDA from the coalition, we have also worked well with the seven parties. You would think that would have created enough confidence. But it went wrong when filling in the figures,” said Hendriks. He indicates that this is why the state of affairs annoys him and feels like distrust.

Hendriks states that the left-wing parties also had an experienced councilor candidate. In addition, he believes that now it is very likely that sitting D66 alderman Jenneskens will stay on, the intended new D66 alderman Daan Janssen could also have stopped for a while and could have stepped in after a year.

The new coalition in Venray can count on 17 of the 27 seats in the city council.
