Lefier makes a decision in May about the demolition of two flats in Emmermeer

Tenants of two flats on Meerstraat and Nijkampenweg and eight so-called ground-level homes on Haagjesweg in Emmen will receive a definitive answer in May whether their homes will be demolished. This is what the Lefier housing corporation has announced in a letter distributed to residents.

The decision on three other flats on Meerstraat and Nijkampenweg will be made next year. In total, this concerns more than two hundred homes.

Last March, Lefier brought out the news that the more than sixty-year-old buildings are dated. Furthermore, the insulation leaves much to be desired. As a precautionary measure, the housing corporation also had steel structures placed under the balconies.

Not very attractive

Lefier has since examined the flats. An assessment has been made of what is involved in making the apartments and homes more sustainable. In the letter that was sent, that option does not seem very attractive.

“This research has shown that refurbishing and making your home energy-efficient costs a lot of money. It is also not certain whether your home can be made sustainable enough to live pleasantly and affordably not only now, but also in the future.” , the corporation writes.

Priority

That is why Lefier is leaning towards demolition and replacement new construction for all flats and homes. Demolition requires permission from the municipality and the Tenants’ Federation. A meeting is now planned. Furthermore, all financial details still need to be worked out.

A final decision will therefore be made in May for two flats and eight homes. In any case, residents will be given priority as home seekers and will receive an allowance. However, another option may be chosen.
