Family killed in their sleep – anti-Semitism was also a motive

According to the Brandenburg police, anti-Semitism was one of the reasons for the violent death of an entire family last December in Senzig near Königs Wusterhausen.

After evaluating chat histories of the cell phones seized by the father of the family, who killed his wife, three children and then himself, this motive also emerged, said Torsten Herbst, spokesman for the Brandenburg police headquarters, on Friday on request. The “Potsdamer Latest News” and the “Märkische Allgemeine Zeitung” had previously reported.

At the beginning of December, five bodies were discovered in a detached house in the Senzig district: three children aged four, eight and ten, a 40-year-old man and his wife of the same age. The father of the family is said to have first killed the children and his wife and then himself with a gun. In a farewell letter, the father is said to have expressed his concern about being arrested because he had his wife’s vaccination certificate forged.

In its response to a parliamentary question by Left-wing member of the Bundestag Petra Pau on anti-Semitic crimes in the fourth quarter of 2021, the Federal Ministry of the Interior wrote that Senzig’s crime was also one of them.

According to the current state of knowledge, the man was convinced that the state was pursuing an “evil” plan with the vaccination campaign and wanted to reduce the world population by half and establish a new world order under Jewish leadership. The classification of the act as “anti-Semitic” resulted from the man’s view that there was a Jewish world conspiracy, it said.

According to police spokesman Herbst, other motives for the man are xenophobia, racism, rejection of the state and rejection of the health service and measures to combat the pandemic.

The victim perspective of Brandenburg – a counseling center for those affected by right-wing violence – expressed shock. This act shows the enormous danger posed by anti-Semitic conspiracy stories within the corona denial movement, says Judith Porath, Managing Director of Victims Perspective.

The fact that the investigating authorities officially classify her as anti-Semitic is an important step. However, since there can be no court proceedings, a public and complete clarification is required as to how the crime could have happened. It must also be examined to what extent corona-denying and right-wing networks were involved in the radicalization of the perpetrator.
