Leeroy Echteld is the new trainer of Jong AZ. The 55-year-old Amsterdammer replaces Jan Sierksma, who has been moved to the first team to become Maarten Martens’ assistant. Echteld is with the Alkmaarders until the summer of 2026.
Echteld is no stranger to Alkmaar. He played in the AZ shirt for six months in the 1997/98 season. In the past, he was also active as a trainer in the youth academy and assistant to John van den Brom. The Amsterdammer had managed second division team De Treffers for the past year and a half. He will combine his work at AZ with his assistantship at the Dutch Juniors.
“It’s wonderful to come home to AZ again,” Echteld says about his return. “I would like to work in professional football again. I see combining coaching at Jong AZ with my duties at the Dutch Juniors as a fantastic challenge. I think this is a very good move for me and my development.”

Young AZ will play against FC Dordrecht on Monday evening. Echteld is not yet on the bench, he starts his work a day later.
