Marcelo Bielsa has to leave as coach of the English football club Leeds United. The number 16 of the Premier League made that decision a day after the big loss (0-4) at home against Tottenham Hotspur. According to chairman Andrea Radrizzani, it was “the most difficult decision of his time at Leeds United for him given all of Marcelo’s success at the club”.
Bielsa has been a trainer at the club from Leeds since June 2018. Led by the 66-year-old Argentinian, Leeds was promoted to the Premier League in 2020. Last season, the club finished ninth in the highest English league, but now Leeds is in the relegation zone.
“We are in a precarious position and I think now is the right time to appoint a new head coach so that it can have an impact at the decisive stage of the season,” said Radrizzani. The appointment of the new coach is expected on Monday.
