Ex-Leipziger
Leeds United apparently has to pay Jean-Kévin Augustin (25) a large sum – the reason: breach of contract. That reports “The Athletic“. Accordingly, the amount is 24.5 million pounds, the equivalent of around 27.9 million euros.
The former Leipzig professional, who is now active at FC Basel, took his complaint to the FIFA Dispute Settlement Chamber, which partially agreed with him. The club, in turn, appealed the decision. At the request of the portal, Leeds said: “The club cannot comment on an ongoing legal matter.” The amount of the fine is said to be made up of the salary payments of his actual five-year contract, Augustin is said to have earned 90,000 euros per week.
In December 2022, RB Leipzig and the “Peacocks” had already been able to file their dispute over Augustin’s transfer. At that time, an amicable settlement of the conflict was reached. After a legal battle that lasted more than two years, the sports court CAS had confirmed that RB must be compensated for the transfer of Augustins from Leeds. The Frenchman was loaned out by the “Red Bulls” in January 2020 to the then second division club with a purchase obligation in the event of promotion. However, the striker did not prevail and Leeds refused to buy it, citing the fact that promotion was not yet certain due to the Corona interruption at the regular end of the season on June 30th. According to the judgment of November 11, Leipzig was entitled to a transfer fee of around EUR 21 million and EUR 340,000 in default interest.

The CAS had rejected the British appeal and regarded the purchase obligation at the end of the season as binding, regardless of its date. There was one from Leeds immediately after the verdict communication to read that they were disappointed with the court decision and “will now carefully examine all legal options with a view to an immediate appeal”. Only six times in their history have the Peacocks spent more on a single player transfer.
