The Los Angeles Lakers have won their first game against the Golden State Warriors in the second round of the NBA playoffs. Partly thanks to 30 points from Anthony Davis, the defending champion was defeated 117-112.
In the meeting between the two top teams from California, Lakers was particularly on the defensive, but still ran into problems in the final phase. A lead of 14 points with less than 6 minutes on the clock was wiped out by the home team with a run of 14 points in a row. Golden State star player Stephen Curry made sure that it was suddenly equal (112-112) more than a minute and a half before the end.
D’Angelo Russell put the Lakers ahead again, followed by a striking free throw from star LeBron James. On behalf of the Warriors, Jordan Poole then missed from distance, after which the German Dennis Schröder further increased the margin with two utilized free throws and the Lakers took their first win in the best-of-seven series not much later.
We know them, they are the defending champions. No lead is safe against them
,,We know them, they are the defending champions. No lead is safe against them,” said Davis, who also recorded 23 rebounds. Curry was the top scorer with 27 points for the home team, which has something to put right in the second game (again in San Francisco) on Wednesday.
New York Knicks again next to Miami Heat
In the eastern division, the New York Knicks tied the score (1-1) against the Miami Heat thanks to a 111-105 win at Madison Square Garden, the famous hall in Manhattan. Jalen Brunson was the top scorer for the home team with 30 points. Miami started without the injured Jimmy Butler and saw Caleb Martin score the most points (22). The duel in Miami continues on Saturday.
