“The incident reflects the chaotic state of the Russian army,” writes the British newspaper The Telegraph. According to the leaked report, three agents from the FSB – the successor to the KGB – entered the Food Fuel Café bar in Kherson on the night of June 19. The agents, Igor Yakubinsky, Sergei Privalov and DA Borodin, encountered two Russian soldiers of the Eighth Regiment of the Black Sea Fleet, Sergei Obukhov (28) and Igor Sudin (31). The two had clearly had one glass too many.

Fatal Shooting

The FSB agents scolded the two soldiers for drinking in uniform. Obukhov then angrily drew his pistol and fired at the floor. Privalov tried to overpower the soldier and take the weapon, whereupon the other soldier started firing with his Kalashnikov. The FSB agents tried to defend themselves, but in vain. Two of them, Privalov and Yakubinsky, were killed. Obukhov also died on the spot.

FSB agent Borodin and Private Sudin survived the shooting but were “admitted to hospital with injuries of varying degrees of severity,” the report said. It is not known what the Russians are doing now.

alcohol abuse

It is not the first time that alcohol abuse has been reported within the Russian army. Residents of Kherson previously testified that there is a lot of drinking among the soldiers, who can therefore be very aggressive. There have been countless reports of rapes, thefts and murders. Moreover, since the start of the war in Ukraine, about six months ago, several reports have appeared about the low morale of the Russian military.

Kherson is the only major city captured by Russian forces west of the Dnieper River. Last Monday, Ukrainian authorities reported that they had begun a counter-offensive in the south of the country. Kiev even claimed that the military in Kherson had already been able to push back units of the pro-Russian separatists and Russian troops. The Russians reported that they could repel the Ukrainian counterattacks.
