After conceding a late goal, FC St. Pauli has only marginally increased its lead in the 2nd Bundesliga.
Coach Fabian Hürzeler’s team drew 1-1 (1-0) with bottom team VfL Osnabrück and gave up a lead in the process.
With a win, St. Pauli could have moved within six points of third-placed city rivals Hamburger SV, who had previously fumbled 2-1 against SC Paderborn. But after the goal by Charalambos Makridis (82nd), which canceled out Jackson Irvine’s lead (6th), St. Pauli is “only” four points ahead of HSV.
On Sunday (1:30 p.m./Sky) Holstein Kiel could draw level on points with a win at Fortuna Düsseldorf. Osnabrück finished the game with only ten men after the yellow-red card against Niklas Wiemann (90th + 3).
Osnabrück got its first point in the second game under new coach Uwe Koschinat, but remains bottom of the table. VfL only got eight points, and before Sunday’s games they were already eight points behind the relegation place.
Australian Irvine gave the visitors an early lead when he headed in from a corner. Previously, the 30-year-old’s first dangerous shot flew just wide of the goal (5th). The goal gave St. Pauli additional security, but the guests did not allow any further goals.
This took revenge in the second half when VfL put up a lot of fight against the next defeat. Makridis rewarded Osnabrück with the equalizer.
