Le Tanneur plans expansion in Germany

Le Tanneur is planning an expansion in Germany. The French company for leather goods plans to be represented in twenty multi-brand stores in Germany in autumn 2022.

The leather goods specialist was previously represented with a shop-in-shop area in the Berlin department store KaDeWe, which opened a year ago. In addition to the new points of sale, Le Tanneur will open its own German online shop. So far there was a translated version of the French shop – the German full version planned for autumn will include features specially tailored to the German market, such as payment methods, checkout procedures and special data security measures. Over the past four months, Le Tanneur has been gaining a better understanding of the habits and preferences of German e-commerce customers – this is how the company wants to ensure that the expectations in the German market can be met.

“Our successful opening of KaDeWe in Berlin strengthens our belief in this new website. It gives us a lot of insight into the types of products being purchased and will help us a lot when working on our product selection and future e-merchandising,” Le Tanneur told FashionUnited.

In 2011, Le Tanneur had already opened its first own boutique in Düsseldorf, and at that time there were also expansion plans for Germany, which, however, came to nothing.

The expansion will be supported with a participation in the Premium, where the label will be present from July 7th to 9th, to “become better known among German industry people and establish contacts for international development”, according to Christian Rondelet, CEO reported by Le Tanneur to FashionUnited. In Germany, Le Tanneur is managed by the agency Evelyn Muth.

120 years of company history

Founded in 1898 by a tanner and an artisan, Le Tanneur has specialized in the manufacture of quality bags and leather accessories ever since. The company writes on its website: “We are not a fashion company, nor an accessories company, not even a lifestyle company. We are simply a ‘maitre maroquinier’ and have been for over 120 years”. ‘Maitre maroquinier’ is an expression that refers to the rare leather craft that has its roots in the Middle Ages. According to Rondelet, Le Tanneur’s clientele places particular value on “beautiful materials and finishings” – and appreciates leather goods that become everyday companions that last a lifetime.
