“Marca” reports
In August 2016, at the age of 19, Luiz Felipe moved from his native Brazil to Lazio Rome in Italy. After six years in Serie A, interrupted only by a loan to the then second division side US Salernitana, the time at the Biancoceleste is coming to an end as the central defender does not want to extend his expiring contract. According to the Spanish “Marca” It is already clear which club will be awarded the contract instead: Real Betis Sevilla.
According to the report, there is full agreement between the player and club on a four-year contract, which is valid from next season. The Verdiblancos are said to have asked Lazio about Felipe last summer, who, despite the short remaining term of the contract, decided not to sell.
Twelve months late, the 24-year-old is heading to Spain at the end of the season. With a market value of 15 million euros, Felipe is one of the five most valuable newcomers to the Real Betis club and is also – as of now – one of the biggest summer transfers of 2022. Only Lorenzo Insigne (30), Niklas Süle (26), Joaquín Correa (27 ) and Jérémie Boga (25) are currently ahead of the defensive man in the ranking of upcoming top deals.
Süle, Insigne & Co.: The top summer transfers 2022
Felipe made 134 appearances for Lazio, scoring two goals and providing four assists. At Real Betis, who are surprisingly third in the table in the Spanish upper house, he should primarily stabilize the defense, which, in contrast to the offensive (45 goals in 24 games), is not yet at the top level. Eight teams have better defenses in Spain than coach Manuel Pellegrini’s side, who have conceded 29 goals. Felipe would be the club’s most valuable defender from the summer if Arsenal’s Héctor Bellerín (26) was not extended on loan.
