Lazio Roma bring in Taty Castellanos: Among the most expensive MLS departures

“An Incredible Story”

Lazio Rom have signed Taty Castellanos from New York City FC. The 24-year-old reportedly signed a contract with the Serie A club until 2028 and costs 15 million euros – only four MLS sales have brought in more money so far. Including the 5 million euro bonus, Castellanos could even climb to second place. According to the NYCFC, it also secured a resale participation.

The 24-year-old striker from Argentina switched to NYCFC in January 2019 after a six-month loan for EUR 425,000 within the “City Football Group” from CA Torque from Uruguay, for whom Castellanos contributed 59 goals and 24 assists in a total of 134 games. Last summer he was drawn within the City cosmos to LaLiga side FC Girona, where he scored 14 goals in 37 games and drew particular attention to himself with his four-pack against Real Madrid.

“Taty is a legend here at NYCFC and will be remembered for his achievements in 2021, winning the Golden Boot and helping the club win the inaugural MLS Cup,” said athletic director David Lee. “It’s an incredible story and we’re thrilled to have been a part of its development. From the moment Taty arrived in New York his quality, dedication and professionalism were evident and it is not surprising that he is set to continue his career at the highest level in Europe. It also shows that NYCFC and City Football Group provide a fantastic environment for players to improve and develop.” With Lazio, Castellanos will be in contention for goals in the Champions League this season.
