Lazio as a spoilsport for Napoli

Outbreak postponed again: At the foot of Mount Vesuvius, SSC Naples has to wait even longer for the third Scudetto that has been awaited for 33 years.

The only remaining pursuer, Lazio Rome, kept their theoretical chance of winning the Italian football championship with a 2-0 (1-0) win against Sassuolo Calcio. Just one point in the away game on Thursday (8.45 p.m. / DAZN) at Udinese Calcio is enough for Diego Maradona’s heirs to win their first title since 1990.

Lazio proved to be a spoilsport on Wednesday: After a goal by former Dortmund player Ciro Immobile was disallowed for offside (7′), Felipe Anderson (14′) struck. However, Sassuolo remained stubborn: Davide Frattesi (45 + 4) hit the crossbar, even then the underdog missed a few opportunities to equalize. Toma Basic (90 + 2) increased in injury time for Rome.

Last weekend, Napoli failed to capitalize on the assist of the Romans, who lost 3-1 at Inter Milan. The 1-1 draw against US Salernitana wasn’t enough and the celebrations had to be postponed.

Inter celebrated their third win in a row on Wednesday. The Champions League semi-finalist won 6-0 (3-0) at Hellas Verona, a candidate for relegation, while former Bundesliga striker Edin Dzeko (37th, 61st) scored twice. Inter jumped to fourth place and remains on course towards the premier class.
