Lawyer Walter Van Steenbrugge responds to suspicion: “It is a deliberate damage operation”
Walter Van Steenbrugge is the lawyer of a suspect in a case involving a large drug lab in Lendelede. Two years ago, the police discovered where up to two tons of amphetamines could be produced. After the full investigation, the prosecutor’s office wants to bring 25 people to court as suspects, including Walter Van Steenbrugge.
According to the first reports, he would have advised his client to have a suspect’s mobile phones, computers and laptops disappear. Master Nancy Vanhee, a second lawyer, is also suspected in the case for the same reason. The council chamber decides whether there are sufficient indications to refer them to the criminal court.
Revenge of the Public Prosecution Service
Van Steenbrugge says that he is not involved in any criminal organization. Specifically about the drug lab in Lendelede, he also says that he has not yet been interrogated or has not been placed under suspicion by the investigating judge. He feels targeted by the Public Prosecution Service and thinks there is a link with the euthanasia process of Tine Nijs in 2020, where his client was acquitted. In that case, the same public prosecutor acted as the case concerning the drug lab in Lendelede.
