The 55-year-old singer was found guilty last year of, among other things, leading an organization that aimed to abuse women and girls. Last week, his sentence in this case was set at 30 years in prison† The musician is also yet to appear in similar charges in the states of Illinois and Minnesota.

“The Bureau of Prisons continues to violate his constitutional rights by exposing him to strict suicide prevention regulations, which are unnecessary and intended to punish him. He was and is not suicidal although that may be what they are trying to achieve,” said the lawyer, who argues that the Bureau of Prisons, the umbrella organization of the American prison system, “acts in secret, which is terrifying.”

The court states that Robert Kelly has been placed under permanent surveillance to prevent suicide after a psychological examination.
