The man who asked West for an autograph and apparently got beaten is now filing a complaint.
An autograph hunter claims he was punched by Kanye West in January 2022 when he asked him for a signature. Justin Poplawski, the name of the alleged victim, has now filed a lawsuit against the US rapper for bodily harm and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
West is said to have struck several times
According to court documents accessed by The Blast, after asking for an autograph near the Soho Warehouse in Los Angeles in January 2022, Justin Poplawski was first yelled at by West, saying, “I’m going to be a f***ing one.” “Make an example of you.” The musician then hit Poplawski several times, hitting him once in the head and once in the neck.
In the lawsuit, the autograph hunter further claims that he apologized to the rapper, to which he replied: “Sorry for what?” Additionally, West was allegedly asked by a member of his entourage to stop the beating, but he only gave the order “in to go out of the damn house and get my damn kids.”
Poplawski is now suing West for damages, the amount envisaged is not publicly known. A video of the incident should also exist and provide further context.
West blames the incident on Kim Kardashian’s divorce
In an interview with Hollywood Unlocked, the 46-year-old rapper was asked about his perspective on the 2022 incident. There, West claimed that Poplawski attacked him after telling him it wasn’t a good time to get an autograph. He further explained that he had been in a bad mood because he had just received bad news from his cousins, who had returned from a parenting discussion with ex-wife Kim Kardashian.
