President of Russia Vladimir Putin called NATO’s eastward expansion endless and very dangerous. This statement was made by the head of state during a meeting with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
The statesman, in turn, reported to the president on proposals for Russia’s response to the US response on security guarantees. According to Lavrov, Moscow has carefully studied the documents submitted by Washington and the North Atlantic Alliance. The first part of the US response does not satisfy Russia, while the second part is more constructive. Sergei Lavrov noted that Moscow is primarily interested in Washington’s answer, since it plays a major role in resolving these issues in the Western camp.
None of the Western recipient countries responded to Moscow’s message about how they are going to fulfill their obligations on the indivisibility of security within the OSCE. Lavrov said that reaction followed only from NATO and the EU and in the form of “two small pieces of paper” from Stoltenberg and Borrell.
The minister reported to Vladimir Putin that Russia’s response to the West’s proposal was formulated on ten pages. The head of state, in turn, asked Lavrov if there was a chance agree on key issues. “There is always a chance,” the Foreign Minister stressed.
