The NBA has announced the interim results of the public voting for the all-star game. Utah’s star player Lauri Markkanen has collected almost 500,000 votes, but it is still not enough for a place in the opening five in the West. There are six frontcourt players ahead of Markkanen.

– There is a problem here. Lauri Markkanen should be higher, an NBA legend Charles Barkley said Inside the NBA – program after seeing the list.

Although the Finn has been on a high lately, he is really far from the starting line-up. The one ahead of Markkanen in number six Paul George for example, has collected almost twice as many votes as the Utah gambler.

The NBA All-Star Game starters, i.e. three frontcourt and two backcourt players from each conference, are selected based on public vote, votes cast by NBA players and the media. The fans have 50 percent of the voting power, the players and the media both 25 percent.

Even if Markkanen doesn’t fit in the opening five of the West, he might still be seen in the All Stars match, as a total of 12 players will be named to both teams. The remaining seven players for each team are chosen by the coaches of the NBA clubs.

The NBA All-Star Game will be played on February 19 in Salt Lake City at the home cave of the Utah Jazz.
